  • Wayne Rooney was on the receiving end of back clash for his comments on Birmingham’s latest defeat
  • The Manchester United legend’s team is yet to win since he took charge in October 2023
  • The Championship club has since moved from 5th to 15th place on the log

Wayne Rooney has been accused of “watching a different game” by Birmingham fans following his comments on the team in the wake of their latest defeat.

Birmingham lost 3-1 to Sunderland on Saturday, November 11 as Rooney continues to search for his first win in charge of the club.

Since the controversial departure of John Eustace , Birmingham have been on a downward slip since, and it has mostly been blamed on 38-year-old Rooney.

According to Sky Sports, the Blues have picked just one point out of a possible 15, a run of form that has seen tem drastically drop down the table.

But Rooney was keen to pick out the positives from the game against Sunderland, as he claimed there were improvements from previous games.

“I've seen improvements, but we obviously need to start improving the results, and I really believe we will. What I'm seeing in training, and what I'm seeing from the players in matches now, is really positive,” he said as cited on SportBible.
“I think this break will help, just in terms of getting the fitness work into them. That's important in terms of how I want my team to play. We're gradually seeing improvement in that, and it's a good opportunity for us now to really spend some time with the players”

Fans react to Rooney’s comments

Despite refusing to fault his team, Rooney’s comments did not sit well with fans, who joked the Manchester United legend was “watching a different game”.

@DjBendek said:

"1 point in 5 games is not impressive Rooney There was no improvement in that game, Sunderland dominated both halves."

@LeeBond1991 added:

"I'm assuming he wasn't watching blues before he took over then? But that being said as a villa fan I say he's doing a great job."

@PrinceUTD1 said:

"From top to bottom and you still call that an improvement."

@RichardTonry added:

"I’m seeing big improvements we were sixth when he took over we are now 18th."

Birmingham’s next game is a tricky fixture against Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday, October 25.
