Legendary Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson remains the manager with the most trophies in football history.

The Scottish won an eye-watering 49 titles during his illustrious managerial career spanning close to 40 years.

Fergie started his managerial journey with East Stirlingshire in 1974 before he joined St Mirren the same year, whom he helped win the Scottish First Division title in 1976/77.

The 81-year-old went on to join Aberdeen, winning the domestic title on three occasions, as well as the European Cup Winners' Cup and the Super Cup.

Fergie's most successful stint as manager came with Manchester United, whom he helped win more than 20 titles, including an incredible 13 Premier League crowns.

Pep Guardiola closes in on Fergie

However, Man City boss Pep Guardiola is slowly closing in on Fergie in terms of the most trophies won by any manager.

The Spaniard has won 37 trophies across his managerial career, with his latest triumph coming in the FIFA Club World Cup.

Aljazeera reports that Pep inspired City to a 4-0 over Fluminense in the final to secure the coveted trophy.

The FIFA Club World Cup title was City's fifth in 2023, having also won a historic treble during the 2022/23 campaign as well as the European Super Cup.

The former Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss now needs 12 titles to catch up with Fergie, who has since retired.

Which other managers have won the most trophies?

Jose Mourinho and Carlo Ancelotti are also among the top 10 managers with the most trophies in football history.

Both managers have enjoyed successful careers, with GiveMeSports reporting that Mourinho has won 26 titles so far.

His 26th trophy came with Roma in 2022 when he helped the Italian Serie A side secure the inaugural UEFA Conference League.

On his part, Ancelotti has two fewer trophies than Mourinho, with the Italian enjoying success with the likes of AC Milan, Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich, and now Real Madrid.
