President of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo remains perplexed by the Black Stars' inability to perform at international competitions following the team's poor showing at AFCON 2021 and the 2022 World Cup.
Ghana exited both tournaments in the group stages, raising questions about the talents at the team's disposal.
The Ghana Football Association met with the country's President on Thursday as preparations begin for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
During their meeting with Nana Addo, the president asked the federation - led by Kurt Okraku - what the problem was with getting the team to excel.
"As an avid football fan, I am very much aware of the challenges that confront us, as results have not been good in recent games. But you can count on me for the necessary support," Akufo-Addo said, as quoted by Pulse.
"We have some very good talents scattered across the globe, so I don’t understand why we shouldn’t perform in tournaments."
Coach, Chris Hughton has named a 55-man provisional squad for the tournament next month. The team will be pruned to 26 before AFCON begins on January 13, 2024.
Ghana have been drawn in Group B alongside seven-time champions Egypt, Cape Verde, and Mozambique, as reported by Citi Sports.

Sports Brief previously that Ghana coach, Hughton released his 55-man squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast next year.
The manager included England-born West Bromwich Albion forward, Brandon Thomas-Asante and 11 home-based players in his team.

Chris Hughton explains Partey's inclusion
Sports Brief also previously reported that Hughton said Arsenal have no choice but to release midfielder, Thomas Partey for AFCON next month.
The 30-year-old has been included in Ghana's 55-man provisional squad for the tournament despite having been out since October with an injury.
Partey has started light gym work and is expected to be fully fit before the continental tourney, with Hughton warning the Gunners to step aside.
