"I am delighted to continue the adventure here and very happy to stay in Nantes! I am ready to continue fighting to help the team go as high as possible. What is certain is that this contract extension is a real proof of confidence in the club, as well as in the team," Simon told the club's official website.

Sports Brief previously reported that Simon paid tribute to Raphael Dwamena after scoring in FC Nantes' Ligue 1 game against FC Metz on Sunday.

Dwamena, who was Simon's teammate at Levante, collapsed and died during a league game between FK Egnatia and KF Partizani in Albania last month.

The former Ghanaian international then left the Spanish side to join Real Zaragoza on loan, while the Nigerian went on to sign with FC Nantes in France.

Gent forward, Gift Orban joined veteran defender, Leon Balogun and the nation's first-choice goalkeeper at the last edition, Maduka Okoye as exclusions from the team.

Kelechi Nwakali and Christian Nwoke are surprise inclusions in Nigeria's squad with the former Golden Eaglets captain returning for the first time since the previous AFCON.
