The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced the 85-man referee pool for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations, which includes only three Kenyan referees.
Peter Kamaku, Gilbert Cheruiyot, and Stephen Yiembe have been selected to officiate at the 34th edition of the tournament set to unfold in Cote d'Ivoire from January 13 to February 11, 2024.
As reported by Pulse Sports, Kamaku has been selected as a field referee while Cheruiyot and Yiembe Stephen will serve as assistants.
A distinguished professor of pure mathematics at the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), Kamaku brings his academic brilliance and a wealth of refereeing experience.
Since officiating in the FKF Premier League in 2013 and obtaining FIFA-listed status in 2017, the 40-year-old has proven himself as a tested professional.
His impressive track record includes overseeing matches in the U20 AFCON in 2019, the main AFCON in Egypt that year, the 2019 U17 World Cup in Brazil, and the 2021 CHAN final pitting Mali against Morocco.

Egypt and Morocco have the greatest number of referees at the tournament with seven each. Algeria is represented by five while the host nation, Cote d'Ivoire will be represented by three referees.

The 24 qualifiers have been split into six groups of four, with the top two in each group and the four best third-place teams qualifying for the Round of 16.
Senegal is the current champion. The Teranga Lions defeated Egypt via penalties in the 2021 edition and hope to defend their AFCON title in Ivory Coast.
