Football“He’ll Improve”: Ex Man United Player Backs Andre Onana to Revive Career
- Paul Ince believes Andre Onana can turn hsi Man United career around
- The goalkeeper has endured a tough start since joining the Red Devils
- However, Onana is joint top of the Premier League's clean sheets chart
Paul Ince thinks Andre Onana is feeling the pressure at Manchester United but has backed the Cameroonian goalkeeper to turn his fortunes around at Old Trafford.
The 27-year-old, guilty of several high-profile errors, has come under scrutiny during a poor start to the season which has seen the Red Devils knocked out of Europe and well off the pace domestically.
According to GOAL, Ince believes the United defence does not protect Onana well but has backed him to learn from his mistakes and come back stronger despite the public scrutiny.
"It's a good learning curve for him and I think he'll get through it as he's a very good goalkeeper. He'll improve what he's doing, but I don't want him to completely change how he plays."
Onana, who has the joint-most clean sheets in the Premier League this season, was guilty of errors against Galatasaray and Bayern Munich, which contributed to Man United finishing bottom of their UEFA Champions League group.
Andre Onana sent AFCON warning
Meanwhile, former Manchester United midfielder, Eric Djemba-Djemba believes Onana risks losing his place as Erik ten Hag’s first-choice goalkeeper if he goes to the Africa Cup of Nations, the BBC reports.
The 27-year-old goalkeeper, who has been heavily criticised this season for his many errors, could miss at least four key matches for the Red Devils if Cameroon make it to the AFCON final on February 11.
The 2023 edition starts on January 13 and Onana is expected to make Rigobert Song’s final Indomitable Lions squad for the tournament despite only returning to international football in September.
