FootballElias Mokwana Valued at R35 Million by Sekhukhune United, Aiming to Cash In on Bafana Bafana Call Up
- Elias Mokwana could be the key to Sekhukhune United's fortunes at or away from the club
- The club has now valued the winger at a staggering amount following his national call-up
- The transfer window opens in January but domestic football will pause during that time
Sekhukhune United believe their star is worth his weight in gold.
Elias Mokwana has been given a R35 million price tag by the Limpopo club on the back of his goal-scoring exploits, which also caught the eye of the national team boss.
That amount would equate to €1.7 million should any foreign club be on the lookout for a creative winger.
Mokwana's stock has been on an upward curve, peaking at the end of 2023 with a place in Hugo Broos's preliminary Bafana Bafana squad for AFCON.
The 24-year-old netted four times for Sekhukhune while providing six assists in his 48 games played for the club in the DStv Premiership, per TransferMarkt.
Lehlohonolo Seema took charge at the end of November and could see the sale as a way to fund his own recruits. There have been whispers of interest from Orlando Pirates, but iDiskiTimes claims nothing formal is on the table.
If sold for that amount, Mokwana would enter the top 10 of most expensive transfers in South African history.
Mamelodi Sundowns paid the equivalent of R58mil when they purchased Marcelo Allende and Brighton and Hove Albion paid €3.3mil for Percy Tau (roughly R64mil in today's currency).
The Sekhukhune valuation places Mokwana in the same bracket as Keegan Dolly, but slightly less than what Tottenham Hotspur paid for Bongani Khumalo and more than what Toronto FC paid for Cassius Mailula.
