  • Monnapule Saleng provided a substitute's spark which led to Orlando Pirate's second goal
  • Pirates are now undefeated in four league games and have five consecutive clean sheets
  • Moroka Swallows look to have hit a creative wall with several blunt recent performances

Tuesday night in the DStv Premiership was a leapfrogging in fortunes. Orlando Pirates beat Moroka Swallows 2-0 at Orlando Stadium while welcoming back a few faces missing in the past weeks.

The Buccaneers have not conceded a goal since the first of November and now have the second-best defensive record in the league, surpassing their latest victims.

The return of Monnapule Saleng was an added reason for the Sea Robbers to smile.

The winger's sidelining displays the depth of Pirates' attacking options. Thembinkosi Lorch's suspension has opened the door for Saleng to give coach, Jose Riveiro something to think about.

Saleng had a productive campaign last season, scoring 11 goals in 22 league appearances, as per TransferMarkt. He has made nine appearances this season and provided the venturing run that turned into a Sipho Sibiya own goal.

Riveiro was impressed with the win and SowetanLive quoted the coach as saying:

"I am happy for Saleng. Coming from the bench and contributing with a good action that resulted in an own goal, was very important for the boy."

As for Moroka Swallows, Steve Komphela's men look unable to get out of second gear. An ineffective midfield hampers their commitment to playing the ball out from the back.

A sloppy pass in the middle of the field again exposed their defence, with Evidence Makgopa punishing them in the first half.

Swallows have now won one in the last five and have scored only twice in their last six matches.

Full video of Thabang Monare's red card

Sports Brief recently reported on Thabang Monare's unusual red card after an altercation with a ballboy.

The Orlando Pirates midfielder was forced to go down the tunnel in the moments before the final whistle.

However, a full video shows the ballboy sauntering over to Monare, who removes the ball from his hands.
