FootballKieran Trippier: Fans Throw Back Newcastle Star’s Tweet After Disaster Class Against Chelsea
- Chelsea beat Newcastle United 4-2 on penalties to reach the Carabao Cup semi-final
- Newcastle's Kieran Tripper gave away a late equaliser and missed his shootout effort
- Fans have dug out his old tweet and are trolling him for supporting the Blues in 2014
Kieran Trippier had a night to forget during the quarter-final of the Carabao Cup against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, leading to his team’s elimination.
Newcastle were eliminated from the League Cup, the second cup competition in a week, further slimming down their chances of silverware this season.
They took an early lead against the home team in the 15th minute after a mistake from defender, Benoit Badiashile, who side-footed the ball past Djordje Petrovic.
Per ESPN, Trippier’s first mistake of the night came in the additional minute of the second half, heading down Malo Gusto’s cross for Mykhailo Mudryk to score and take the game to penalties.
Fans dig up Trippier’s old tweet
The former Tottenham Hotspur star was the first to miss a spot kick attempt for Eddie Howe’s team before Matt Ritchie also had his saved by Serbian goalkeeper, Petrovic.
Out of nowhere, fans went through his social media and unearthed a tweet he made ahead of Chelsea’s 3-1 loss to Atletico Madrid in the 2014 UEFA Champions League semi-final.
