Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah is in line to close in on an incredible Premier League record if he scores or assists against Manchester United.

Salah is expected to make part of Liverpool's starting XI when the Reds host rivals United at Anfield on Sunday, December 17.

The hosts will be aiming for maximum points during the tie as they bid to cement their lead at the top of the standings.

However, they will be wary of the visitors, who are in dire need of a positive result following their elimination from the Champions League in the group stages earlier last week.

Be that as it may, Liverpool will be heading into the Sunday cracker on the back of a superior head-to-head record over United in recent years, with the Red Devils yet to taste victory at Anfield since 2016.

Sky Sports reports that Liverpool ran riot last season when they hammered the Old Trafford dwellers 7-0 at home.

Mo Salah closing in on EPL record

Salah played a big role in the huge victory for the Merseysiders, with the Egyptian bagging a brace during the tie.

The former Roma ace has enjoyed an incredible run against United, having scored 12 goals against Ten Hag's side.

TalkSPORT reports that the striker will be hoping to continue with the impressive form against the Red Devils on Sunday, with a goal or an assist enough to help him close in on Premier League history.

The 31-year-old has either scored or assisted a goal in 16 consecutive home games.

A goal or an assist in the tie would make that the second-longest run in Premier League history, only behind Alan Shearer, which ran between March 1995 and February 1996 during his time at Blackburn Rovers.

Drogba sings praise of Mohamed Salah

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that English Premier League legend, Didier Drogba showered praises on Mohamed Salah following his latest achievement with Liverpool.

The Chelsea legend paid tribute to the Liverpool star after he again entered the record books last Saturday following his 200th goal for the Reds.
