FootballMichael Essien: Chelsea Legend Praises Greenwood for Scoring Penalty With His Weaker Right Foot
- Getafe dominantly beat Sevilla away at the Estadio Ramon Sanchez
- Manchester United loanee Mason Greenwood scored and assisted
- Chelsea legend Michael Essien praised him for his right-footed score
Mason Greenwood was the star of the game as Getafe tore apart Sevilla, with Chelsea legend, Michael Essien noticing and being left in awe at his performances.
Greenwood is on loan at the Spanish club to restart his career after nearly two years without football following assault allegations by his partner, Harriet Robson.
The court dropped the charges, but he was unable to continue at Manchester United amid outrage from fans when the club tried to reintegrate him into the first team.
Greenwood had offers from many European clubs while some rejected him publicly before Getafe came to his rescue, and he has been repaying the faith shown in him.
Essien praises Mason Greenwood
The 22-year-old assisted Jaime Mata for the second goal with a brilliant defence-cutting pass before he scored the third from the penalty spot with his right foot.
He is naturally left-footed, but Greenwood possesses rare weaker foot frequency and accuracy, which earned him praise from Essien on social media.
"I am quite impressed seeing [Greenwood], a left-footed player, taking a penalty kick with his right foot and scoring. ⚽️🏃🏽♂️👏🏽," he wrote.
The United academy graduate has contributed seven goals - three goals and four assists - in 13 games for the La Liga club.
Per Goal, many clubs, including FC Barcelona, are now circling Greenwood in case United are looking to sell in the summer, as it seems very unlikely he will continue at Old Trafford, despite the court verdict, his return to football, and having a baby with his girlfriend.

How fans reacted to Greenwood's return
Sports Brief previously reported that fans had mixed reactions to Greenwood's return after Man United released a statement indicating he would continue his career away from Old Trafford.
Some fans believe that non-conviction does not equate to 'not guilty' and were upset at the statement stating he did not commit an offence despite alleged evidence showing this was not true.
