Harambee Starlets striker Marjolene Nekesa made a brief appearance for Slavia Prague in a goalless draw against St. Polten in the UEFA Women's Champions League on Wednesday, December 13, 2023.

Head Coach Karel Piták opted to field a slightly different starting XI from the one that lost 1-0 to Brann Women on matchday two, leaving the former Minsk forward on the bench.

Slavia had failed to keep a clean sheet in 11 of their last 12 games, averaging at least two goals in their last six away games across all competitions.

The team’s last four fixtures had seen more goals scored in the first half, statistics seen on Sportskeeda.

Slavia Prague began the game with offensive intent, coming close to scoring the opener with just three minutes gone. Michaela Khýrová failed to test St. Polten goalkeeper Carina Schlüter, after a rebound shot from Tereza Krejčiříková, hitting a shot that found the side netting.

The team struggled to convert their chances despite being in control for most of the opening period, Schlüter tipping over another attempt from Krejčiříková in the 23rd minute, as reported on Pulse Sports.

St. Polten had a major opportunity to take the lead in the 36th minute when Melanie Brunnthaler was put through on goal with only goalkeeper Olivie Lukášová to beat. Her shot, however, hit the crossbar. Brunnthaler could have changed the scoreboard after missing the target again from a good cross minutes after the restart.

With only two minutes left and limited clear-cut opportunities, Nekesa replaced Karolina Křivská. She, however, could not have a substantial impact on the game.

20th best women’s team in the world

Sports Brief previously ranked Slavia Prague at position 20 among the world’s best women’s teams.

Founded in 1892, the team has won 11 Czech SR Leagues, four Czech Women's Cups and nine Czech Leagues.

Written in full as “Sportovní klub Slavia Praha Ženy”, the club has now secured its first points in Group of this season’s Champions League.
