  • Kaizer Chiefs are experiencing another underwhelming football season
  • The Johannesburg-based club have failed to improve from last season
  • A former Chiefs captain has come out to identify the current problems

Kaizer Chiefs are enduring another forgettable season in the Premier Soccer League, falling far from the heights they once epitomised in the last decade.

Despite the recent decision to dismiss Molefi Ntseki - appointed only in June - and replace him with Cavin Johnson, little has changed in the fortunes of the struggling PSL giants.

Ahead of their league clash against basement dwellers, Richard Bay, former Chiefs captain Willard Katsande has come out to identify the issues currently faced by his former club.

The 37-year-old also took time to appeal to the fans to continue their support for AmaKhosi.

Willard Katsande on Kaizer Chiefs' woes

In an interview with iDiski Times, the former captain urged fans to have patience and support for the new coach.

Katsande - who wore the Chiefs' colours from 2011 to 2021 according to Fotmob - emphasised that putting Johnson under pressure was akin to putting players under pressure, hindering their ability to perform at their best.

"Whoever is chosen by the management as a new coach, give him support. Whether we lose three, four to nil, just give him that period; he's cooking."

Acknowledging the challenges faced by the team, the former midfielder urged fans to be patient and supportive, emphasising that coaches and players do not enter the field with the intention of losing.

Katsande also underscored the importance of creating an environment where the team feels supported rather than constantly criticised.

While Katsande's words can be seen as a rallying cry for both fans and those in the Amakhosi hierarchy, supporters have endured a prolonged period of disappointment with the team's performances and will hope for a quick turnaround under the guidance of the new manager.

Katsande almost recalled from retirement

As Sports Brief reported last year, Katsande almost made a surprising return to pro football.

The former Zimbabwean international and Chiefs star hung up his boots at the end of the year.

However, Sekhukhune United's struggles to find his replacement saw him set for a comeback.
