South African manager Pitso Mosimane has reacted after former Mamelodi Sundowns star Percy Tau was named the Interclub Player of the Year at the 2023 CAF Awards in Morocco.
The former Brighton and Hove Albion star beat Peter Shahalulile and Fiston Mayele to the award.
The Bafana Bafana star had a stellar season for Al-Ahly last campaign as they won the CAF Champions League and the Egyptian Premier League.
The former Club Brugge star was the player with the most goal contributions in last season's CAF Champions League, with five goals and five assists in 12 matches, according to a report by TransferMarkt.
Mosimane took to his official page on X (formerly known as Twitter) to shower praises on Tau after being named the best Inter Club player of the year (men's category).
"I am so proud of you. Your respect, hard work and mental strength in the game are at another level. Congratulations Sledge," he said.
Mosimane coached Tau during his time with Mamelodi Sundowns from 2013 to 2018, before joining the former Al Wahda manager at Al-Ahly in 2021.
Since joining the Egyptian giants, Tau has been one of the club's best players and he is expected to lead them to the FIFA Club World Cup, which begins on Tuesday, December 12, in Saudi Arabia.
Mosimane opens up on latest job offers
Sports Brief previously reported on Mosimane discussing the latest job offers he received amid recent links to DStv Premiership side, Kaizer Chiefs.
The former Mamelodi Sundowns mentor has been without a coaching job since parting ways with the United Arab Emirates league side, Al Wahda.
Mosimane gave an exclusive interview with South African journalists earlier this month, stating he was not in a rush to find a new role before Christmas.
