However, they have endured a frustrating campaign in the group stages, and need just more than a miracle to qualify ahead of the final round of group fixtures.

According to Goal, United have won just one of their five Group A matches and currently sit bottom of their pool.

On their part, the Magpies sit third in Group F, having also won just one game and drawn two others.

Newcastle, United could cost EPL spot in UCL

According to Sportbible, Newcastle and Man United's poor run in the competition is likely to cost the Premier League a spot in next season's Champions League.

A new format is set to be introduced in the competition for the 2024/25 season that will see 36 clubs participate in one big league table rather than the current 32, which are ordinarily divided into eight groups.

Under the new arrangement, the two best-performing leagues in Europe this season will be granted an extra place in the next campaign.

This will be determined by each league's UEFA coefficient ranking from the current season.

The ranking is calculated by the performance of each team in all European competitions.

As it stands, England ranks fourth behind Germany, Spain, and Italy.

This is largely down to Newcastle and Man United's struggles in the current campaign.

Tuchel's warning to Man United

Earlier, Sports Brief reported on Thomas Tuchel firing a Champions League warning to Man United ahead of their meeting.

While Bayern have already booked their spot in the next round, Tuchel has warned United that his side will still be aiming for maximum points when they square off at Old Trafford.
