Victor Osimhen Pays Tributes to African Football Legends After Winning CAF Player of the Year Award

Nigeria forward Victor Osimhen has paid a glowing tribute to all the African football legends who played a role in shaping his career after being crowned Player of the Year at the 2023 CAF Awards.

The Napoli star beat off competition from Liverpool's Mohamed Salah and Morocco's Achraf Hakimi to win the award for the first time in Marrakech, Morocco.

Osmimhen becomes the fifth Nigerian to win the award following in the footsteps of the legendary Rashidi Yekini and Emmanuel Amuneke.

In reacting to the award, the 24-year-old thanked Amuneke, the man who gave him his first shot at the FIFA U17 World Cup, before moving on to show gratitude the Emmanuel Adebayor and his role model Didier Drogba.

"First of all I want to thank God. I also want to thank Emmanuel Amuneke without whom I wouldn't be here," he said.
"I thank Emmanuel Adebayor and everyone who helped me in my career and of course my role model Didier Drogba," an excited Osimhen added.

Osimhen led Napoli to their first league title in 33 years while also winning the Golden Boot award.

Osimhen crowned African Player of the Year

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Nigeria and Napoli forward Victor Osimhen has been named Africa's Player of the Year at the CAF Awards in Morocco.

The Super Eagles attacker beat competition from Mohamed Salah and Achraf Hakimi to be crowned the king of African football.

The crowd rose to their feet in Marrakech as CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe called out the striker's name, writing him into the footballing history books forever.

Sports Brief also reported that Victor Osimhen arrived at the 2023 CAF Awards with his beautiful girlfriend as the clock ticks to his coronation as Player of the Year.

The Napoli and Super Eagles star is the favourite to win the award after an outstanding season in the Italian Serie A and with the Nigeria national team.

Osimhen will face competition from Liverpool's Mohamed Salah and Achraf Hakimi of Morocco for the top award.
