Chiamaka Nnadozie has won the 2023 CAF African Women Goalkeeper of the Year at the ongoing CAF Award in Morocco.
The Super Falcons of Nigeria goalkeeper edged other impressive nominees to the prestigious prize during the award ceremony in Marrakech on Monday night, December 11.
She showcased her heroics during the Women’s World Cup match against Olympic champions Canada, making three crucial saves, which included a remarkable stoppage of a 50th-minute penalty taken by Christine Sinclair.
Morocco's Imane Abdelahad and Khadija Er-Rmichi, as well as Andile Dlamini and Kaylin Swart of South Africa, were all among the five nominees, but it was the Nigerian that scooped the award.
She said via Channels TV:
“I also want to say a very big thank you to the Nigerian football president for everything he has done in the Nigerian league and female football. I am a product of Nigerian female football.
“Also, thank you to my club, Paris FC for all the encouragement, and thanks to everyone who voted for me and who nominated me.
“And to all the young girls who grew up in Africa, dreaming of becoming footballers one day—believe me, dreams do come true.
“My dad never wanted me to play, but I am sure he is going to see this tonight and he is going to be happy.
“Keep dreaming; keep working hard. Thank you”
Nigeria named Women's Team of the Year
Sports Brief earlier reported that the Super Falcons have been named the Women’s Team of the Year at the CAF 2023 Awards off the back of an impressive showing at the World Cup earlier in the year.

FootballNigeria edged four other nominees to the prestigious prize during the CAF Awards ceremony in Marrakech, Morocco, on Monday night, December 11.
Other Women's national teams nominated for the award were Morocco, Senegal, South Africa and Zambia.
