FootballJose Mourinho: What Roma Boss Wrote in Note to Patricio During Fiorentina Draw
- AS Roma battled for a draw against Fiorentina despite finishing with only 9 men
- Nicola Zalewski and goal-scorer Romelu Lukaku were sent off in the second half
- Jose Mourinho utilised an old tactic by passing a note to goalkeeper Rui Patricio
Jose Mourinho pulled off one of his old gimmicks during AS Roma’s 1-1 draw against Fiorentina, and fans have been left asking what the content of his note was.
Mourinho’s team had the opportunity to solidify their stand in fourth place on the table but could only secure a hard-fought draw in a game they ended with nine players.
Romelu Lukaku opened the scoring with a brilliant header off Paulo Dybala’s cross before the Argentine went off injured, and the Belgian was sent off for a rash challenge in the second half.
Dybala’s replacement, Sardar Azmoun also went off injured in the second half.
Full-back Nicola Zalewski also received his marching order from two bookable offences, prompting the manager and his team to deny all media duties in protest, per Roma Press.
What Mourinho wrote to Patricio
After Lukaku was sent off, the Special One wrote a note and gave it to a ball boy who delivered it to goalkeeper, Rui Patricio, with the exchange picked up by DAZN cameras.
On the paper was an image of a goal with the names of Stephan El Shaarawy and Eduardo Bove on either side, which suggests the note contained instructions on how to defend a corner in the final minutes.
Per Football Italia, the Portuguese goalkeeper returned the note to the boy, who claimed he would keep it as memorabilia of the day he served as part of Mourinho’s backroom.

Mourinho hits back at Papu Gomez
Sports Brief previously reported on Mourinho’s clap back at Papu Gomez after Roma's win over Monza, which the winger missed as he faces a two-year ban after a positive doping test.
The Argentine claimed his only memory of the Special One was beating him in the Europa League final last season with Sevilla, with the Special One firing back in his trademark fashion.
