FootballReece James: Mauricio Pochettino Provides Injury Update as Defender Suffers Another Setback
- Chelsea suffered a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Everton on Sunday, December 10
- The Blues were also dealt another injury blow as Reece James hobbled off early on
- James has missed a large part of his team’s season through injury
Chelsea’s season went from bad to worse as Reece James suffered another injury setback during the game against Everton.
The Blues endured their second Premier League defeat in only a matter of days as Everton continued their resurgence despite a 10-point deduction with a convincing 2-0 win at Goodison Park.
James only lasted 27 minutes against The Toffees and had to be replaced by Lewis Colwill after suffering what appeared to be a hamstring injury.
This will come as a big blow to Mauricio Pochettino’s side, as the Chelsea captain only returned to full training less than two months ago.
According to GOAL.com, James rose through the ranks at the Chelsea academy and eventually broke into the first team, making 155 appearances.
But his young career has been rigged with injuries, including an ankle setback that delayed his start to life in the Premier League.
Mauricio Pochettino provides update
Reece James was not the only one to suffer an injury setback on Sunday.
Goalkeeper Robert Sanchez and defender Marc Cucurella also had to come off in the last 10 minutes of Chelsea’s 2-0 defeat.
Speaking after the game, Pochettino confirmed James had a hamstring setback.
"Reece felt something in his hamstring. For sure he’s injured, but we don’t know how serious it is,” the gaffer said, as quoted on 90Min.
He added: "Of course for us he is an important player, one of the best full-backs in the world. It is really disappointing because after 15 or 20 minutes we were playing well and I think this type of circumstance makes us change, because of course Malo Gusto is recovering from his injury.”

FootballOn Robert Sanchez, Pochettino said the goalkeeper sustained a knee issue during the 2-1 defeat to Manchester United earlier in the week, while Cucurella suffered a twisted ankle on Sunday.
What next for Chelsea?
The Blues will now have to cope during the busy festive period without the services of Reece James, and it starts on Saturday, December 16, when they face Sheffield United.
Nicolas Jackson involved in scuffle
Sports Brief also reported on an incident involving Nicolas Jackson in a confrontation with Everton players at full-time.
The 22-year-old, who was brought to join Chelsea for a fee of £32million, was introduced in the match on Sunday midway through the second half to replace Armando Broja.
But his most significant moment of the game arguably came after the full-time whistle, when several Everton players, including Nathan Patterson and Amadou Onana, surrounded him.
