Mikel Arteta has cheekily responded to his opposite number, Pep Guardiola, who claimed “I will not do an Arteta” on Sunday.

Guardiola referenced the Arsenal manager when he was asked by referee Simon Hooper to comment on a controversial decision during Manchester City’s clash against Tottenham.

City were denied the chance to score what would have been the match-winner after Hooper decided to call play back for a foul on Erling Haaland by Emerson Royal.

As reported by BBC, Guardiola said after the game that he would “not do an Arteta”, referencing the Arsenal boss’ controversial comments after the Gunners’ defeat to Newcastle United in November.

Arteta branded the officiating a “disgrace” in comments that quickly went viral and earned him a charge from the Football Association.

Arteta’s response

While speaking to Sky Sports on Monday, Arteta was asked whether he watched Guardiola’s post-match comments. The gaffer let out a smile, saying as per

"Onto the next question, thank you."

A cheeky journalist then asked whether the phrase “doing a Mikel Arteta” would eventually make its way into English football after Guardiola’s viral comments.

Arteta responded: "I'm not sure. I have enough in my garden and on my plate as well.”

Arsenal is currently top of the Premier League table after their latest 2-1 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Manchester City’s draw against Spurs allowed Liverpool to leapfrog them into second place, as Guardiola’s side now find themselves in third place, three points behind the Gunners after 14 games.

Premier League top 3’s next games

Arsenal will hope to extend their lead at the top when they visit Luton Town on Tuesday, December 5, while Manchester City face a tricky away trip to Aston Villa.

Liverpool is also away as they face strugglers Sheffield United on Wednesday.

Haaland’s reaction to viral meme

Sports Brief also reported Erling Haaland’s response to a viral meme of himself in the wake of his antics against Tottenham Hotspur.

The striker tends to become the talk of social media for his prowess in front of goal, but things were a bit different on Sunday, December 3.

Haaland was an irate figure during the Premier League clash involving Manchester City and Tottenham, which ended in a frustrating 3-3 stalemate for the Cityzens.
