Atletico Madrid’s Antoine Griezmann Equals Lionel Messi's Record As He Wins La Liga Award

Antoine Griezmann's start to life at Atletico Madrid, and through the 2023-24 campaign in general, can only be classified as sensational.

Since completing his return transfer from Barcelona, the veteran forward continued to earn plaudits and awards thanks to his impeccable form for Los Colchoneros.

The 32-year-old was recently named winner of the Player of the Month award by La Liga EA Sports for the month of November, as reported by LaLiga.com.

Griezmann was involved in four goals throughout the month, according to data courtesy of WhoScored.

While a flurry of felicitations have been met to the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner claiming the prize, the forward has also equalled a record set by mercurial Argentine and Inter Miami captain Lionel Messi.

Griezmann equals Lionel Messi's record

The former Real Sociedad star, who won what was his eighth La Liga Player of the Month Award, joins the former Barcelona captain Messi as the player with the most Player of the Month awards in the Spanish top-flight league, as reported by Atletico Universe.

This instalment of the award saw the Atleti number seven pip Getafe's Borja Mayoral, Osasuna's Ante Budimir, Real Betis' Ayoze Perez and Girona's Artem Dovbyk to claim the prize.

Looking ahead to the rest of the 2023-24 season, Griezmann has openly expressed his ambition to clinch his first La Liga title with Diego Simeone's team. In his own words,

"I'm motivated to be someone important at Atletico, to be a legend at this club. I know I have to earn it (La Liga title."

His determination to secure the La Liga crown, a title that has eluded him thus far, remains evident, as reported by Marca.

Joao Felix slams Griezmann

Sports Brief in a previous report highlighted Barcelona forward Joao Felix has hit out at former teammate Antoine Griezmannn following the French forward’s criticism of him.
