Barcelona's financial situation is not good, so the club had to be smart in the summer transfer window. Felix and Cancelo joined on deadline day

Other summer signings include Ilkay Gundogan, who joined the Catalan club on a free transfer. Inigo Martinez and Oriol Romeu also signed for the club.

Felix, one of the most expensive footballers ever, reportedly fell out with Atletico boss Diego Simeone, while Cancelo was unhappy with his limited role at Man City. He said he wanted to play more.

He spent the second half of the 2022/23 season at Bayern Munich. Felix joined Chelsea in January 2023 after signing a new deal with Atletico Madrid.

Barcelona plans for Felix, Cancelo

Both players have become important under Xavi Hernandez. Cancelo, for instance, has started 15 out of the 16 games he's played this season. Felix has started 13 out of 16 games and contributed seven goals plus assists, per Transfermarkt.

Barcelona reportedly fear these two would cost a lot more in the summer and will have more suitors looking to pay the premium price.

According to Mundo Deportivo via Barca Universal, Barcelona want to sign Felix for €40 million, although the forward is valued at €80mil.

They would also like to secure Cancelo, valued at €25mil, for €15 mil from Man City. The report also indicates that Barcelona would like to include a player in a potential deal for Felix.

Pique warning about Barca, Real Madrid

Sports Brief earlier reported on Barcelona legend Gerard Pique warning that Spain's two biggest clubs, Barcelona and Real Madrid, could be out of Europe in five years.

The World Cup winner said La Liga's strict rules mean the two clubs won't be able to compete in the market with other European clubs, which have more spending power due to a lack of financial regulations.
