  • Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland are the two best players in world football
  • With Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi close to retirement, these two are taking over
  • Both are close to hitting 25 and their career stats are nearly similar

For over a decade, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi were the two best players in world football. They broke records, won many trophies and gave fans some unforgettable moments.

Both are in their late 30s and a slowly declining, and new stars are taking over.

PSG forward Kylian Mbappe and Manchester City striker Erling Haaland are considered the successors to Ronaldo and Messi.

Messi and Ronaldo's goalscoring records will likely never be broken anytime soon, but Mbappe and Haaland have shown they can get close.

Both are not 25 yet; both have scored over 200 goals and have avoided major injuries in their young careers so far. So how do they compare? Sports Brief takes a look.

Kylian Mbappe's career

The France international could retire now, and his place in the history books would be safe. His accolades include a World Cup, six Ligue 1 trophies, five Ligue 1 Golden Boots and the 2022 World Cup Golden Boot.

He has scored 256 club goals for PSG and Monaco in 337 games. He is PSG's record goalscorer.

He has 46 goals for France in 75 appearances and will surely surpass all-time leading scorer Olivier Giroud, who has 56 goals.

The winger made his senior debut on December 2, 2015, at just 16 years, 11 months, and 12 days, wearing a Monaco shirt in Ligue 1.

He made his debut for France on March 25, 2017, and it has been a rollercoaster since then. He was named captain earlier this year following Hugo Lloris's retirement after the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

The winger turns 25 in December. The only trophy he hasn't won is the Champions League.

Erling Haaland's career

The Manchester City star is the best striker in the world.

He joined Molde FK in 2017 and made his professional debut for the club under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the Norwegian league on June 4, 2017. He joined Red Bull Salzburg in 2019.

He then joined Borussia Dortmund in January 2020, where he caught the attention of the big clubs. He moved to Manchester City in 2022 and shattered many records in his first season in the Premier League.

He has scored 206 goals for Man City, Dortmund, Molde and Salzburg. The towering striker won the treble last season with Manchester City. Last season, he broke the record for the most goals in a 38-game Premier League season.

Haaland made his Norway debut in 2019 and has scored 27 goals in 28 games for his country. However, he has never played at a World Cup like Mbappe. He will miss the 2024 European Championships after they failed to qualify.

It is important to note that France has a way better squad than Norway.
