Lionel Messi has missed out on the 2023 Major League Soccer team of the season despite an impressive debut campaign for Inter Miami.

Messi joined the David-Beckham-owned side in July and turned around the fortunes of a club that were sitting rock bottom in their conference.

The Argentina star brought a new lease of life to American football, with many celebrities like Tom Brady, LeBron James, and Serena Williams flocking to the DRV PNK stadium to watch the former Barcelona man.

Under the guidance of Tata Martino, Messi led the Herons to the inaugural Leagues Cup trophy, but an untimely injury while on international duty saw him sit out a couple of league games and the US Open Cup final.

The Argetine World Cup winner only featured in six league games as Inter Miami failed to make it to the Major League Soccer playoffs.

The eight-time Ballon d'Or winner has consequently been left out of the team of the season, with the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the year - Luciano Acosta of Cincinnati - headlining the team.

Messi's fellow World Cup winner, Thiago Almada of Atlanta, along with Nashville's Henry Mukhtar and former Atletico Madrid star, Hector Herrera, joined Acosta in the middle of the pack.

Former Borussia Dortmund goalkeeper, Roman Burki is the goalkeeper of the season, with Matt Miazga, Tim Parker, and Walker Zimmerman providing defensive cover.

Top scorer Denis Bouanga, newcomer of the year Giorgos Giakoumakis, and Cucho Hernandez are the attackers of the team uploaded to the Major League Soccer's website.

Messi is set to stay away from competitive action until at least February next year when preseason friendlies resume.
