It was a day to forget for Ramos and Sevilla as they went 2-0 down after just 22 minutes. First, Marko Dmitrovic scored an own goal before Umar Sadiq scored a belter from distance.

Sevilla kept the score down and had good chances to score, but they had to wait until the hour mark to pull one back through striker Youssef En-Nesyri.

They couldn't add more, and late in the game, they lost their heads. Sergio Ramos took out Mendez with a dangerous tackle in the 88th minute. He was first shown a yellow card, but a VAR check saw the card change to red.

Moments later, his teammate and captain, Jesus Navas, was shown a straight red for what appeared to be dissent. It was his first straight red card in La Liga.

The defeat leaves Sevilla 15th in La Liga with two wins in 13 games.

Ramos disciplinary record

The 37-year-old has never been afraid to put in a tackle throughout his career. However, these tackles have cost his time big time and earned him a reputation.

Over the course of his two-decade career, Ramos has racked up hundreds of yellow cards and almost 30 red cards.

He received his first career send-off in La Liga on September 18 2005, per ESPN, and has received some of his famous red cards in El Clasico.

According to Transfermarkt, the legendary defender has received 236 yellow cards and 28 red cards.
