  • Manchester City and Liverpool played out a 1-1 draw at the Etihad
  • The game had interesting scenes at full time as Pep Guardiola had a spat with Darwin Nunez
  • Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has now hinted on what the spat was all about

Jurgen Klopp hinted on what led to the verbal altercation between Pep Guardiola and Reds forward Darwin Nunez at full time after Manchester City’s clash against Liverpool.

For the first time this season, Manchester City failed to win a game at home as Liverpool cancelled out Erling Haaland’s opener through Trent Alexander Arnold’s goal in the second goal.

City thought they had found a second goal which would have put them 2-0 up, but Ruben Dias’ goal was ruled out as referee Chris Kavanagh ruled that Liverpool goalie Alisson had been fouled in the build up.

A draw does not suit either team, as it paved way for Arsenal to potentially go top of the table with a win against Brentford.

And frustrations at full time was there for all to see as Pep Guardiola was involved in a verbal spat with Darwin Nunez, who seemed to have been angered by something from the Man City boss.

What Klopp and Guardiola said

Asked about the incident after the game, Guardiola played it down, saying, as per The Mirror:

"Nothing happened. He is stronger than me! There is no problem.”

The City gaffer was more intent on speaking on the game, which he felt his side deserved to win.

He added: “I am so pleased with the performance. After eight years here, when Liverpool run you think ‘oh my God.’ When they run, it is still heavy metal and sometimes all you can do is pray - but we limited them to just two chances.”

Klopp also tried to play down the incident, saying he was the wrong person to ask.

“We’re not fierce rivals (with City), we are just rivals. But I am not sure Darwin Nunez knows about any historical rivals.”

On who deserved to win the game, Klopp added:

“City looked the most likely team to win, but we had chances on the counter-attack. We have beaten City before with even less chances. I didn’t like our body language at half-time and I told the players that there was a goal for us in the second half.”

Liverpool remain one point behind City, after 13 games. The Reds face LASK in the Europa League in their next game, while City will turn their attention to the Champions League, where they will come up against RB Leipzig on Tuesday, November 28.

Pochettino’s worst game of the season

Elsewhere, Sports Brief reported on Mauricio Pochettino’s blunt comments after Chelsea’s crushing defeat to Newcastle United.

Goals from Alexander Isak, Jamaal Lascelles, Joelinton and Anthony Gordon were enough to see off Chelsea, who ended the game with 10 men after the dismissal of Reece James.

Pochettino had nowhere to hide after the game after the comprehensive defeat, and admitted to Premier League productions that his side were second best.
