It was a long-awaited moment, indeed. After 16 games and over 1000 minutes, Ousmane Dembele finally found the back of the net for Paris Saint-Germain. The 26-year-old, who joined the Ligue 1 club in a somewhat controversial move from Barcelona early in the summer, had struggled to find his form under manager Luis Enrique.
Despite receiving ample playing time, some considered unjust given his goal-scoring woes, the 2018 World Cup winner failed to score for the Ligue 1 giants. However, in the game against title rivals AS Monaco, Dembele put an end to his goal drought in impressive fashion.
Receiving a well-lofted pass from midfielder Fabian Ruiz, the French forward deftly beat his marker Soungouton Magassa with a skilful touch before unleashing a shot past goalkeeper Philip Horn from a tight angle.
The goal not only took the wind out of Monaco's sail but also contributed to PSG's 5-2 victory, extending their lead at the top of Ligue 1 to four points, as reported by Fotmob. Following his impressive strike, Dembele took to the media to speak about the goal.
Dembele on his first PSG goal
Dembele shared his thoughts on his first PSG goal with PSG TV, cited by PSGReport, stating,
"My first goal? I’m happy because after the first 4 or 5 Ligue 1 games I played, I wanted to score very quickly, and then I told myself not to worry about that and to play good football. After that, I knew it was going to happen. And now I’m happy."
