FootballSaudi League: Moment Al Akhdoud Players Argued Over Who To Take Penalty Then Referee Cancels It
- Al Akhdoud endured a moment of embarrassment during their Saudi League tie with Al-Nassr
- The 16th-placed side fell to a 3-0 humbling defeat at the hands of Cristiano Ronaldo's side
- However, the talk of the game was an incident involving a number of Akhdoud players arguing over a penalty
The resumption of club football in the Saudi Pro League after the final international break brought a flurry of captivating moments.
The Al-Awwal Park witnessed one such incident during Al-Nassr's clash with underdog side Al Akhdoud.
The Knights of Najd, unbeaten in their last 18 games across all competitions, initiated the match with Anderson Talisica and the league's top scorer, Cristiano Ronaldo, pressing for an early breakthrough.
Yet, the unexpected goal came from an unlikely source: Sami Al Naji, making his seventh appearance this season.
Al Naji capitalized on a brilliant team build-up, slotting home after a slick assist from Sultan Al Ghannam, per Arab News.
The goal awakened the visitors, with Godwin Saviour and veteran Leandre Tawamba causing headaches for Al-Nassr's defence.
Arguing players swerved with penalty call
A nervy moment ensued when Al Fatil was suspected of a handball in the box, initially denied by the referee but subjected to VAR review.
During this tense pause, Al Akhdoud's players debated over who would take the potential penalty.
However, the review revealed an offside, stunningly cancelling out the penalty opportunity and sparking relief among the home crowd.

Unfortunately, their argument did not help matters, as a brace from Ronaldo in the second half sealed all three points for Al-Nassr as they narrowed the gap between themselves and Al-Hilal, according to the Independent.
