A coach is little without his players and Mosimane has had the pleasure of working with rough diamonds and seasoned professionals at the top of their game.

In his time as Bafana Bafana's assistant, he served under high-profile coaches, sandwiched in between successful stints and SuperSport United and Mamelodi Sundowns.

With his Middle Eastern chapter possibly behind him, Sports Brief takes a look at the best players Mosimane has directed on the training pitch.

Top 10 players under Pitso Mosimane's guidance

1. Delron Buckley

Buckley played under Mosimane for the national team. He made over 250 appearances in the Bundesliga, scoring 36 goals for VFB Bochum, Arminia Bielefeld, and Borussia Dortmund.

A member of South Africa's 2002 FIFA World Cup squad, he played 73 times for his country and scored 10 goals, and is currently pursuing his coaching career with Maritzburg United.

2. Mohamed El Shenawy

The Egyptian goalkeeper has been nominated for the 2023 CAF Interclub Player of the Year award and was a vital allay of Mosimane in the Al Ahly changeroom.

The club captain has made 43 appearances for Egypt and has represented his country at the Olympics.

3. Matthew Booth

Disciplined and rigid, the ice-cold Booth was a fan favourite in South Africa before moving to Russia.

Another to only work with Mosimane at the national team level, Booth had two stints with Sundowns but never under 'Jingles'.

4. Aaron Mokoena

A tough tackler, a great reader of the game and a heart like a champion, 'The Axe' had a stellar career in England and was a servant for his country.

He made 178 Premier League appearances for Blackburn Rovers and Portsmouth, plus 107 caps for South Africa.

5. Steve Pienaar

An Ajax youth academy graduate, he was one of South Africa's top-tier performers while Mosimane was with the national team. He earned 361 professional caps with 41 goals from midfield.

Pienaar's big-game temperament for Everton made him one of the first names on the team sheet when they were pushing for European places during David Moyes' golden years.

6. Katlego Mphela

'Killer' was with Mosimane from the earliest SuperSport United days, throughout the national team days, then again with Mamelodi Sundowns.

Their relationship was built on Mphela delivering goals, which he did 23 times for South Africa in 53 appearances.

7. Sibusiso Zuma

Zuma's career spanned 20 years where made 446 appearances for eight clubs, winning trophies and adoration with his 133 career goals.

Zuma is a cult hero in Copenhagen where he spent five seasons, winning the league three times. His bicycle kick against Brondby is immortalised outside Parken Stadium.

8. Bradley Carnell

Carnell's professionalism is what held him up as a role model to young players, something he is taking with him into his coaching career.

A marauding left-back, Carnell spent 11 seasons in the Bundesliga and as a coach, just recorded a memorable first season for St Louis City.

9. Anthony Laffor

The imposing Liberian was with Mosimane at Sundowns from start to finish. He poached the industrious winger from old club, Supersport United and Laffor was a staple in a star-studded attack for Masandawana.

As well as 47 caps and 5 goals, Laffor played 123 times for Mosimane and Kabo Yellow.

10. Surprise Moriri

Moriri was central to Sundowns' success at the height of Mosimane-mania. He never soared in national team colours but was the glue of the Sundowns team.

He helped build the conditions where players like Hlompho Kekana and Khama Billiat could thrive, while serving as a role model for a young Percy Tau.
