  • Wilfred Ndidi is said to be on Sevilla and Barcelona's transfer radar
  • The La Liga giants are vying for the signature of the Nigerian midfielder
  • The Super Eagles star's contract with Leicester City will expire in 2024

UEFA Europa League champions Sevilla are reportedly set to battle La Liga rivals Barcelona for the signature of Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi in the next summer transfer window.

The Nigerian international has been in good form since Leicester City relegated from the English top flight last season.

Ndidi was linked with a move away from the Foxes last summer after being relegated from the Premier League, but the move failed to materialise and have since been enjoying a new role under Enzo Maresca at the King Power Stadium.

The Super Eagles midfielder has scored three goals so far this season and his performances have caught the eye of top European clubs.

Sevilla are set to lock horns with Barcelona for the signature of the Nigerian midfielder, according to a report by Spanish outlet Football Espana as per Soccernet.

Both Spanish clubs are monitoring Ndidi's contract situation with the Foxes, with his current deal expiring in the summer of 2024.

Barcelona are keen on signing the Nigerian international on a free transfer due to their financial woes, and they are seeking a replacement for Sergio Busquets.

Sevilla might have a little challenge in convincing Ndidi to join them due to his salary and might not be able to compete with Barcelona and other top clubs vying for the signature of the Leicester City star.

Ndidi’s market value decreases

Sports Brief previously reported on Ndidi's market transfer value nosediving from €60mil to €25mil in just one year following the relegation of Leicester City at the end of the 2022/23 season.

Last year, the midfielder was rated as the most valuable player from Nigeria ahead of Napoli striker, Victor Osimhen, who is fourth in the world following his displays for the Serie A champions.

Ndidi suffered a drop in his transfer market value on four consecutive occasions between September and November last year, as well as from March to June 2023 after the Foxes dropped to the EFL.
