Former Germany forward, Gerald Asamoah has flown 50 surgeons to Ghana to treat children with hole-in-heart conditions for free.

As part of giving back to the country of his birth, Asamoah has transported 50 doctors to take care of children with heart problems.

In a video that has since gone viral on social media, the German doctors are seen arriving ahead of the task at hand. Holes-in-heart have been a major issue in Ghana, with many children, men, and women dying from the condition.

Asamoah, a member of the German team that reached the 2002 World Cup final, made 43 appearances for the four-time world champions.

He started his career with Hannover 96 in the late 90s before joining Schalke O4, where he spent most of his career playing in the Bundesliga.

He later represented FC Saint Pauli and Greuther Furth, before returning to Schalke where he currently works as a manager, per Transfermarkt.

Raphael Dwamena dies of heart problem

Sports Brief previously reported on Ghana's Raphael Dwamena sadly passing away after collapsing during an Albanian Superliga game.

The 28-year-old collapsed in the 23rd minute of the top flight game between FK Egnatia and KF Partizani and had to be rushed to the hospital.

Dwamena - who was declared dead upon arrival - had been playing with an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator due to ongoing heart issues.

Asamoah opens up on playing for Germany

Earlier, Sports Brief reported on Asamoah insisting representing Germany over Ghana was the smartest choice of his playing career.

The Ghanaian-born forward ditched the Black Stars to play for the Europeans, going on to feature for Germany at the 2002 World Cup.

In an interview with Peace FM, the Schalke O4 manager stated that the decision to play for Germany proved the best choice he made.
