Gerald Asamoah says representing Germany over Ghana was the smartest choice in his playing career.

The Ghanaian-born ditched the Black Stars to play for the Europeans, going on to feature for Germany at the World Cup in 2002.

In an interview with Peace FM in Accra, the Schalke O4 General Manager revealed that the decision to play for Germany proved the best in his career.

“I have no remorse. At that moment, it was the wisest choice that I could have made. If Otto Addo had been the coach at the time, it’s possible that I would have made a different choice, but at the time, it was one of the finest choices I could have made," he told Peace FM.
“It has been of great assistance to me, and I adore Ghana. I am keeping up with Ghana and watching Ghana. I was born in Ghana, but I now call Germany my home. Playing for Germany was one of the smartest choices I’ve ever made," he added.

Asamoah made 46 appearances for Germany, scoring six goals in a glittering international career. He played in the 2002 final as Germany lost 2-0 to Brazil, courtesy a Ronaldo double.

In terms of club career, the 43-year-old spent most of his time at Schalke, and he is widely regarded as a legend at the club.

These days he works as the General Manager of Schalke.

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that friends and family of Ghana's interim coach Otto Addo have thrown a celebratory party for the Borussia Dortmund scout and trainer after his heroic achievement with the Black Stars.

Otto Addo stepped in to lead the Black Stars in the World Cup play-offs against Nigeria last month, and after the two-legged encounter, Ghana sealed qualification to Qatar 2022.

Having arrived in Germany a week ago, his wife, friends and family surprised him with a party as they congratulated him for the magnificent performance by Ghana against Nigeria.
