FootballRomelu Lukaku: Why Belgian’s Good Form This Season Could Cripple Permanent Move to Roma
- Chelsea have reportedly set an asking price for Romelu Lukaku
- The Belgian moved to Roma last summer on loan from Chelsea
- Lukaku has enjoyed some decent form in the Giallorossi colours
Romelu Lukaku could become a victim of his success as Chelsea have reportedly set an asking price for the Belgian’s permanent transfer to AS Roma.
The Blues hope to offload Lukaku at the end of the season, as he is not part of new boss, Mauricio Pochettino’s plans.
The 30-year-old has been sensational since moving to Roma on loan, scoring nine times in 14 games, including some crucial strikes for Jose Mourinho’s side.
With his explosive start to life at the Stadio Olimpico, it is no wonder the rumour mill has been spinning relentlessly regarding the big Belgian's future.
The most plausible destination for Lukaku once his loan spell ends is a permanent transfer to Roma, but Chelsea’s valuation of the striker could get in the way.
According to Standard.co.uk, the Blues have set a price tag of £37 million - a figure which Jose Mourinho’s side would be willing to match if the 30-year-old continues his impressive form.
Mourinho would be open to Roma signing Lukaku permanently. Still, the Portuguese tactician could end up having very little to say about it since there are reports he is leaving the Italian giants in June 2024.
This, in turn, could see the club try to reduce the transfer fees as much as possible before considering taking up Lukaku’s services permanently. The Giallorossi could also end up shying away if he dips in form.
Lukaku's impressive form for Belgium
Regarding form, there is little indication that Lukaku will slow down in his scoring spree.
On the international front, he emerged as the top scorer in the Euro 2024 qualifiers after bagging four goals against Azerbaijan on November 19.

5 players Arsenal could sign in January
Still on transfers, Sports Brief also previously reported on some of the players Arsenal could sign in January to make them genuine title contenders.
The Gunners came close to lifting the crown last season but fell short towards the end of the campaign, allowing Manchester City to retain the title.
The north Londoners made three signings during the January window, with Leandro Trossard, Jakub Kiwior, and Jorginho joining the Londoners.
