Romelu Lukaku stands alone.
The Belgian forward made history on Sunday, breaking the record for most goals scored in a Euro qualifying campaign.
Sports Brief examines how Lukaku accomplished that feat and the players whose records the AS Roma star toppled.
Lukaku breaks record with 14 goals
Belgium’s rise to the top of Group F wouldn’t be possible without the brilliance of Lukaku. He scored 14 of his country’s 22 goals in their Euro qualifying campaign, setting a new record in the process.
He gave Belgium a dream start, scoring a hat-trick in their opening match against Sweden.
Lukaku then scored a stunning equaliser midway through the second half of their match against Austria to salvage a 1-1 draw.
He nabbed a brace three days later in Estonia, leading Belgium to a 3-0 victory.
Lukaku failed to find the back of the net in their following group game against Azerbaijan on September 9 - the first and only time he didn’t score in Belgium’s Euro qualifying campaign.
He scored another brace against Estonia, this time at home, with the Red Devils recording an emphatic 5-0 victory.
He added one goal each in Belgium’s following games against Austria and Sweden to stretch his goal tally to ten.
Lukaku saved the best for last in the home game against Azerbaijan, scoring four goals in the first half of Belgium’s 5-0 victory.
Healy scores 13 goals for Northern Ireland
Healy had a memorable Euro 2008 qualifying campaign for Northern Ireland, scoring 13 goals to set a new record.
Robert Lewandowski facing worst goal drought in 12 years
FootballHe scored in seven out of Northern Ireland’s 12 qualifying matches from 2006 to 2007, recording hat-tricks at home against Spain and on the road against Lichtenstein.
Healy’s heroics weren’t enough to lead Northern Ireland to Euro 2008, however, as they finished third in Group F behind Spain and Sweden.
Lewandowski scores 13 goals for Poland
Robert Lewandowski tied Healy’s mark during Poland’s Euro 2016 qualifying campaign, scoring 13 goals for the national team in 10 matches from 2014 to 2015.
He got off to a fantastic start, scoring four goals in his nation’s 7-0 away win over Gibraltar.
Lewandowski then went on a goal drought, failing to find the back of the net in Poland’s next five qualifiers.
He then went on a scoring tear in Poland’s last five qualifying matches, recording nine goals during that stretch.
Lewa scored a hat-trick in Poland’s 4-0 win over Georgia, nabbed a consolation goal in their 3-1 loss to Germany, and hit braces against Gibraltar and Scotland.
