Bruno Fernandes subtly gave Manchester United the green light to acquire talented youngster Joao Neves.

Neves, 19, has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford, and Red Devils scouts are already keeping an eye on the midfielder.

During a recent clash between Benfica and fierce rivals Sporting Lisbon, Neves scored a late goal to help his side turn the game around, and it has been suggested Manchester United scouts were there to witness his performance.

Scoring from the midfield is something that will certainly favour Neves, and Bruno Fernandes has become the first Manchester United player to openly speak on his national teammate.

Fernandes’ take on Joao Neves

The Manchester United captain, currently on international duty with Portugal, recently spoke highly of the young Neves, saying, as cited on The Mirror:

“He's a great player, I don't know if he would have a place or not. It depends on the coach and his ideas.”

Fernandes went on to suggest Neves had a bright future, and would fit seamlessly at Manchester United.

“But he's an excellent player and an excellent kid, very professional, You will have a bright future wherever you go. I would really like to have him by my side. Because he has quality and will have a bright future. It depends on him. What I want most is the best for him."

Joao Neves’ breakthrough

Neves made his breakthrough to the Benfica first team earlier this year after the club lost Enzo Fernandez to Chelsea. He has made 38 appearances for the side, scoring twice.

With five years left on his deal with Benfica, the 19-year old might go for a hefty fee, if Manchester United decide to hone in on his services.

Compilation of Joao Neves goes viral

Sports Brief also covered a story on Joao Neves’ recent highlights which went viral.

Not only does the 19-year-old enjoy a good tackle, he appears to be a master at reading the game and breaking up play, especially during counter-attacks.

He also does not shy away from a midfield battle with opponents, despite being only 5 foot 9 inches.
