The mother of late Ghanaian footballer, Raphael Dwamena, Madam Ruby Akakpo has spoken for the first time following the tragic death of her son.

The 28-year-old passed away after collapsing during an Albanian league game between his club, FK Egnatia and KF Partizani on Saturday, November 11.

The tragic death of the former Black Stars striker has left his family heartbroken as his grief-stricken mother struggles to come to terms with his passing.

In an interview with Onua FM, Madam Akakpo disclosed that she spoke to him regularly and there were concerns about his health after it was first detected he had a heart problem.

"I talked to Nana Kwame on Thursday," she told radio host, Captain Smart, as quoted by Ghana Soccernet. "He talks to me all the time on video call."

Dwamena's 2017 move to the Premier League to join Brighton and Hove Albion fell through after he failed his medicals, as reported by Football Ghana.

The striker was advised to quit football at that time but decided to continue playing and - at one point - reportedly had to play with a heart detector connected.

"So, we allowed him to play until a time when he will voluntarily stop," added his grieving mother.

Dwamena went on to play for Levante, Real Zaragoza, Velje Bodklub, and BW Linz.

On Monday, the Albanian authorities started investigations into the death of the player, with prosecutors said to have raided the offices of his club, FK Egnatia.

Earlier, Sports Brief reported on prosecutors in the city of Durres, Albania raiding the offices of FK Egnatia following the death of Dwamena.

The former Ghanaian international passed away amid a league game against KF Partizani on Saturday after reportedly suffering cardiac arrest.

Dwamena was pronounced dead at the Kavaja Hospital in the city, with doctors confirming he had passed before arriving at the facility.
