Ousmane Dembele's start to life in Paris Saint-Germain hasn't gone down as expected, with the pacy winger yet to get on the scoresheet for his new side.

Dembele surprisingly quit Barcelona to move back to his native France to link up with Kylian Mbappe in a new-look PSG under Luis Enrique.

The 26-year-old has featured regularly for the Spanish tactician, which has seen him become the most creative player in the world this season - his lack of goals notwithstanding

A study by the Comparative and International Education Society(CIES) Football Observatory Group compiled a list of the best players in the world in terms of their chance creation.

How the creative players' list was determined

The method used includes adding the number of key passes in a game to the number of expected assists per 90, depending on the dangerousness of the chances compared to the sporting level of the leagues where the players play. A player must have played over 630 league minutes to be considered.

Based on the above parameters, it emerged that Dembele leads the fray in terms of creativity worldwide this season. The Les Bleus winger is averaging 2.45 key passes every game with no other player above 2. 37-year-old Maximiliano Nunez of Nacional Potosi is second on this front with 1.99.

Aston Villa's Moussa Diaby is the highest-ranked Premier League player, with the former Bayer Leverkusen man having 1.5 key passes in a game just ahead of Liverpool's Mohamed Salah.

PSG has two players in the top 10, with Mbappe featuring in fourth place behind Dembele, Bayern Munich's Leroy Sane and Athletico Bilbao's Nico Williams. Williams' elder brother, Inaki Williams, is also in the top 10.

The 2023/2024 Premier League campaign is only 12 games in, but from the foregoing, defending seems to have taken a back seat this season, with only Arsenal and Liverpool averaging less than one goal per game in terms of conceding.

But amidst that sorry statistic, there have been standout defenders of the season so far.

Sports Brief takes a look at the top 10 defenders in the Premier League so far.
