Accra Hearts of Oak have sacked Martinus Koopman after ten games in charge of the club.

He will be replaced by assistant coach Abdul Bashiru ahead of Saturday's derby against Accra Lions.

"Hearts appoints Abdul Bashiru as acting head coach. The Board of Accra Hearts of Oak has appointed the club's assistant coach, Abdul Rahim Bashiru, as the acting head coach. His appointment takes immediate effect,"wrote the club in their official website.

Hearts of Oak confirmed the sacking of the manager in a letter shared on social media.

“This decision forms part of the club's grand aim of restructuring the technical team as we continue with the 2023-24 football season.," part of the statement from Hearts of Oak read.

The former African champions have struggled this season and currently sit 12th on the table.

The Phobians only escaped the drop last season after the final game of the campaign.

Koopman compares Hamza Issah to Romario

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Accra Hearts of Oak coach, Martin Koopman has drawn similarities between Hamza Issah, and Brazil's legendary forward Romario.

The Hearts of Oak forward has been in fine form, scoring in the last two games as the Phobians secured a 1-1 draw at Bibiani GoldStars and a 3-1 win against champions Medeama SC.

The diminutive attacker has suddenly become the fans favourite after helping end the club's winless run in five matches.

Hearts forward Daniel Afriyie joins FC Zurich

Sports Brief also reported that Black Stars forward Daniel Afriyie Barnieh has completed his move from Ghanaian giants Hearts of Oak to FC Zurich in Switzerland.

The 21-year-old signed a three-year deal to join the Swiss topflight side in the winter transfer window.

The World Cup squad member is currently with the Black Galaxies team in Algeria and will join his new club after the Championship of African Nations, a tournament reserved for players plying their trades in the domestic leagues.
