Nigeria winger Moses Simon paid tribute to Ghanaian footballer Raphael Dwamena after scoring in FC Nantes' Ligue 1 game against FC Metz on Sunday.
Dwamena collapsed and died during a league game between FK Egnatia and KF Partizani in Albania on Saturday.
Simon and Dwamena were teammates at Spanish club Levante before the ex-Ghana international left to join Real Zaragoza on loan. The Nigerian later left the La Liga club to sign for FC Nantes in France.
With the news of Dwamena's passing coming as a shock to many, Simon paid his last respect to his former teammate as he dedicated his goal against Metz to the striker.
In a video shared on social media, Simon cut off his celebrations as he lifted his shirt to show off the inscription, RIP Raphael.
Dwamena's career was plagued by heart problems, leading to the player collapsing twice during games in Austria and Albania.
His heart issues were first detected after a move to English Premier League side Brighton fell through after failing a medical.
Meanwhile, Simon's FC Nantes suffered a 3-1 defeat to FC Metz on the road.
Kevin Van Den Kerkhof's early goal for Metz was cancelled by the Super Eagles forward before strikes from Simon Elisor and Joel Asoro sealed the win for the host, as reported by ligue1.com.

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Ghanaian footballer Raphael Dwamena sadly passed away after collapsing during an Albanian Superliga game between FK Egnatia and KF Partizani.

Asamoah Gyan pays tribute to Dwamena
Sports Brief also reported that former Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan paid tribute to Raphael Dwamena, the ex-Black Stars forward who died during a league game in Albania on Saturday.
Dwamena collapsed and died in the game between FK Egnati and FK Partizani.
Gyan, who played alongside Dwamena, as strike partners for the Black Stars during the 28-year-old's debut, took to social media to pay his respect.
