Ghanaian midfielder Salis Abdul Samed has opened up on his relationship with former RC Lens captain Seko Fofana.

The Ivory Coast midfielder left Ligue 1 side Lens in the summer transfer window to join Saudi Arabian outfit Al-Nassr.

His departure has seen the Blood and Gold struggle to replicate the form that saw them match Paris Saint-Germain boot-for-boot last season.

Lens came close to winning the title as they qualified for the UEFA Champions League for the first time in two decades.

“He was like my big brother, he advised me, helped me on the pitch, and we understood each other easily. He did his things in Lens, hats off. It hurt me a little that he left, but everyone has their own career,” he said, as quoted by wesportfr.com.

Lens suffered their first defeat in the Champions League in midweek against Dutch giants PSV, but remain in contention for progressing to the knockout stage.

The French outfit signed Senegalese midfielder Nampalys Mendy in the summer transfer window as a replacement for Fofana, as reported by afrikpage.com.

Abdul Samed is expected to join the Black Stars team for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Madagascar and Comoros Island next week.

Samed named in Ghana squad for World Cup qualifiers

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Black Stars captain Andre Ayew has returned to the squad as Ghana coach Chris Hughton named his team for the World Cup qualifiers against Madagascar and Comoros.

The 34-year-old missed the international friendlies against the United States and Mexico last month but has been recalled for the November international assignment.

The four-time African champions will host Madagascar on November 17 before travelling to Comoros Island for their second Group I game three days later.

RC Lens hand Abdul Samed new contract

Sports Brief also reported that Black Stars midfielder, Salis Abdul Samed has been handed a contract extension at French Ligue side RC Lens.

The 23-year-old signed a one-year deal that will keep him at the club until June 2028, after an impressive first season with the Blood and Gold.

Having joined the club from Clermont Foot last summer, the Ghana international made 33 Ligue 1 appearances, scoring a goal as Lens finished the season in second place.
