FootballEx Man United Goalie in Talks With La Liga Club Over January Move
- Real Betis are reportedly interested in goalkeeper, David de Gea
- The Spaniard is without a club since leaving Manchester United
- De Gea spent 13 years with the Red Devils before he left in June
Real Betis could help revive the career of former Manchester United goalkeeper, David de Gea after a reported proposal to sign the Spanish international in January.
The 33-year-old goalkeeper has been without a club for five months after the Red Devils declined to renew his contract, which made him the club’s highest-paid player.
De Gea then left United in July in somewhat controversial circumstances, with many fans slamming the Old Trafford outfit for their ill-treatment of a long-serving stalwart.
According to GOAL, Real Betis and De Gea have begun preliminary negotiations, with both parties inclined to make a deal work as the goalkeeper is eager to return to Spain after 13 years away.
The La Liga club are looking to complete the signing of the former Atletico Madrid goalkeeper as their current number one, Rui Silva is being linked with an exit from the club this winter.
Real Betis only have a 40-year-old Claudio Bravo as cover but CEO, Ramon Alarcon stated De Gea would only be brought in if the club raises sufficient funds due to their current salary cap.
Betis has strategy to sign De Gea
Meanwhile, Real Betis hopes to sanction the sale of some players to be able to afford the deal to sign the ex-Man United goalkeeper, who is presently a free agent, Football Espana reports.
The La Liga club hopes to cash in on current No. 1, Silva as Benfica, Ajax, and Atletico Madrid showed interest last summer, but none offered him a significant increase or the role he wanted.
Real Betis will reportedly also seek to use the 'Isco formula' to attract De Gea: that is to say a short-term deal on reduced terms aimed at benefitting both parties in the immediate future.
