Luis Diaz is not alone in his current predicament and has received a message of support from Chelsea legend John Mikel Obi, a man who had gone through a similar experience.
Diaz's parents were abducted about two weeks ago, but his mother, Cilenis Marulanda, was released the following day while his father, Luis Manuel Diaz, is still in custody.
The Colombian government identified the ELN guerilla group as the faction behind the kidnapping of the Liverpool winger's parents and demanded immediate release.
Despite the group confirming Diaz Snr is in their custody and promising his release about five days ago, he is yet to be reunited with his family, who seek assurances he is still alive.
Mikel sends message to Diaz
Former Chelsea midfielder Mikel Obi has shared his thoughts with the former Porto star, having gone through the same experience twice in 2011 and 2018 when his father was kidnapped in Nigeria, per Sportskeeda.
Speaking exclusively to talkSPORT, the former Nigerian captain applauded Liverpool for their support while urging the player to stay strong.
"I must give credit to Liverpool for what they are doing. I can relate to Luis Diaz and what he is going through. This kind of situation is where you absolutely have nothing to do," he said.
"I know exactly what you are going through, and I hope he stays strong. I know it is a tough time for him as a player. I know what his family is going through as well. My message to him is to stay strong and do all you can to make sure that your dad is released."
