Harry Maguire had an interesting answer when asked to name his toughest-ever opponent.

The 30-year-old defender has come up against some of the best in the business, mainly because he has played in the Premier League for years.

Since his days at Leicester City, Maguire has faced modern legends including Eden Hazard, Harry Kane, Kevin de Bruyne, and Sergio Aguero - but he ranks one name above them all.

In a recent Q and A session with JD Football, Maguire disclosed that Al-Hilal forward, Neymar Junior was the most formidable opponent he had faced.

"My toughest opponent is Neymar. I played against him for PSG and for Brazil at Wembley. He is a tough opponent; a tough one to mark," he said.

Maguire first faced Neymar in the UEFA Champions League when Manchester United were up against Paris Saint-Germain on December 2, 2020.

The Brazilian forward ended up scoring twice as the Red Devils succumbed to a 3-1 defeat in a game which midfielder, Fred was sent off.

Neymar is currently recovering from an injury that has all but ended his season. As cited by CBS Sports, he tore his ACL while on international duty with Brazil and recently underwent surgery. He has embarked on the road to recovery but is expected to be out of action for at least six months.

Harry Maguire on his best teammate

In the same interview, Maguire singled out a Portuguese veteran as the best player he has teamed up with.

"I’ve been fortunate to play with a lot of great players but I’d have to go with Cristiano Ronaldo. Obviously he is a legend of the game and probably the best to ever do it," the defender stated.

Casemiro linked with Man United exit

Sports Brief also previously reported on Casemiro being linked with a transfer away from United in January.

The Brazilian joined the Red Devils in the summer of 2022 from Real Madrid for an initial fee of £60 million.

Casemiro is now a crucial part of Erik ten Hag's team and has played a key role in United's limited successes.
