At the age of 40 years and 254 days, Pepe's thunderous 91st-minute strike marked a milestone as he became the first player to score in European football's premier tournament while in his 40s.

This achievement surpassed the previous record held by Francesco Totti, who scored at the age of 38 years and 59 days, BBC reported.

Not only did Pepe claim the title of the oldest goal-scorer, but he also holds the distinction of being the oldest outfield player in the history of the competition.

According to Eurosport, the former Real Madrid central defender established this record when he took the field against the same opponents on October 25.

The oldest appearance-maker in the UCL is Marco Ballotta, who was 43 years and 252 days old when he featured for Lazio against Real Madrid in December 2007.

How Pepe has fared this season

Per GOAL, Pepe continues to be a valuable asset for the Portuguese giants, having made seven appearances in various competitions, despite his advanced age.

He is a celebrated Real Madrid icon, having clinched the Champions League title three times during his tenure with the club. He is now in his second stint with Porto.

Pepe was first with the club from 2004 to 2007 before he made a triumphant return in 2019. In total, he has amassed an impressive 261 appearances for them.
