Rafael Leao scored an overhead kick to draw AC Milan level in their Champions League clash at the San Siro.

The French champions had gone ahead through former Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar, who headed in from a corner.

AC Milan headed into the match looking to kickstart their Champions League campaign but started poorly by allowing Skriniar to score after nine minutes.

AC Milan went on a counterattack in the 12th minute, but ex-Milan keeper Gianluigi Donnaruma saved Olivier Giroud's effort.

Leao then reacted with a spectacular bicycle kick to even matters. The game was tied 1-1 at halftime. Early in the second half, French striker Olivier Giroud scored to give Milan a 2-1 lead.

They weathered a storm and survived late in the game when Kang-in Lee struck the post. They held on for their first win of the season in the competition.

Milan gets first UCL win

AC Milan had drawn two and lost one of their first three Champions League games, but a 2-1 win over one of the favourites will do their confidence some good.

Last season, they reached the semi-final but were eliminated by their arch-rivals Inter Milan. Moreover, it was their first win in four games.

They are now third in Group F with five points from four games. German giants Borussia Dortmund are top with seven points, while PSG are second with six points.

Newcastle United are bottom with four points. They will play Dortmund next, then Newcastle.

Sports Brief earlier reported on Rafael Leao's comical attempt against Newcastle United in the Champions League.

The 24-year-old made an excellent run with the ball into opposition territory and, after dribbling past three Newcastle players, only had the goalkeeper to beat.

Instead of adjusting himself for a proper shot, Leao attempted a back-heel and failed miserably as the attack fizzled out.
