Vinicius Junior is one of Real Madrid's best players, but in the last few seasons, he's been targeted by opposition fans, some of whom have directed racist abuse towards the Brazilian.
Earlier this week, Barcelona legend Carles Puyol asked the winger to change his attitude so as to get more recognition. Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti has now responded to Puyol's remarks.
The Brazilian international has grabbed headlines for his altercations on the pitch, which have attracted ridicule from opposition players and rival fans.
Over the last two seasons, that anger from rival fans has translated to racist abuse from sections of fans, but he has also received widespread support from football fans and players.
He has started slowly this season, as he was sidelined for a few games with injury. He remains a key player for Ancelotti.
Ancelotti responds to Puyol
Speaking ahead of their Champions League game against Braga, Ancelotti appeared to support Puyol's comments, which were seen as controversial by Madrid fans.
"If Puyol wants to talk to Vinícius, let him do it, he has a lot of experience. Vini is a difference-maker, that’s obvious. Maybe his attitude could be better in certain circumstances. But he has improved a lot, and continues to improve. We are delighted with him. He does his best, in the last few games he hasn’t quite been on top form, but he has improved a lot," he said, via GOAL.
Ancelotti has defended Vinicius throughout, but it appears he wants the youngster to be reasonable in some instances. Rival fans have accused him of being petulant.
