2023 FIFA Club World Cup Teams: Manchester City, Fluminense Lead List of Participants in Saudi Event

We are just a few weeks away from the start of the 2023 FIFA Club World Cup, and excitement is building for one of the biggest sporting events of the year.

The list of participants is complete following Fluminense’s win in Saturday’s Copa Libertadores final.

Sports Brief looks at the seven teams that have qualified for next month's FIFA Club World Cup.

2023 FIFA Club World Cup Qualified Teams

Manchester City (England)

Manchester City booked a spot in the showpiece event after winning the 2022-23 edition of the UEFA Champions League last June.

They completed a historic treble with their first-ever Champions League triumph, beating Inter Milan 1-0 in the final through a Rodri goal.

They will enter the Club World Cup in the semi-final round as the European representatives.

Fluminense (Brazil)

Fluminense secured their place in the 2023 FIFA Club World Cup after beating Boca Juniors in this year’s Copa Libertadores final, per The Sporting News.

German Cano and John Kennedy scored the goals for Fluminense in the 2-1 win. They will enter the competition in the semi-final stage as the South American representatives.

Club Leon (Mexico)

Club Leon punched their ticket to the 2023 FIFA Club World Cup after winning the CONCACAF Champions Cup this year.

The Mexican side defeated Los Angeles FC 3-1 on aggregate in the final.

They will make their Club World Cup debut in the second round of this year’s competition.

Urawa Red Diamonds (Japan)

The Urawa Red Diamonds booked their place in the FIFA Club World Cup after winning the 2022 edition of the AFC Champions League.

They defeated Al-Hilal 2-1 on aggregate in the final, with Andre Carillo’s own goal in the second leg proving to be the difference in their championship encounter.

The Asian representatives will enter the competition in the second round, where they will face Club Leon.

Al Ahly (Egypt)

Al Ahly secured their spot in the 2023 FIFA Club World Cup after beating Wydad AC in the 2022-23 edition of the CAF Champions League.

They recorded a 3-2 win on aggregate in the final, with Mohamed Abdelmonem’s 78th-minute goal in the second leg proving to be the difference in this championship match.

This will be the ninth time in Al Ahly’s history that they will represent Africa in the FIFA Club World Cup.

Auckland City (New Zealand)

Auckland City will be making their 12th appearance in the FIFA Club World Cup after they beat Suva 4-2 in the final of the 2023 OFC Champions League.

Cameron Howieson and Ryan De Vries scored the much-needed goals for Auckland City in extra time to secure the win.

Al-Ittihad (Saudi Arabia)

Saudi Arabia managed to land a spot in the showpiece event as the host of the Club World Cup this year. Al-Ittihad will represent the Middle Eastern country after they won the Saudi Professional League last season.

They will enter the competition in the first round, where they will face Auckland City in a knockout match.

Marcelo's Copa triumph with Fluminense

Sports Brief recently reported on Marcelo comparing his Champions League and Copa Libertadores victories.

Marcelo claimed that the Copa Libertadores is bigger than the UEFA Champions League.

The Brazilian star helped Fluminense win the biggest club competition in South America.
