  • Jeremy Doku put up a masterclass for Manchester City against Bournemouth
  • The Belgian scored one and assisted four goals as City destroyed their opponents 6-1
  • Pep Guardiola has sent a message to Jack Grealish over competition on the left wing

Pep Guardiola has a good selection headache for Manchester City's left-wing spot between Jeremy Doku and Jack Grealish, and the Spanish boss has sent a message to the Englishman.

Grealish joined Manchester City in the summer of 2021 for £100 million but is yet to justify his price tag despite putting up some good performances for the club.

Doku came in for about half of what the former Aston Villa winger cost and put up a masterclass for City against Bournemouth, scoring one and assisting another four goals.

Per Opta Analyst, he joined an illustrious list of players who have assisted four goals in a single match, including Paul Pogba, Cesc Fabregas and Harry Kane amongst others.

Guardiola sends message to Grealish

Doku's performance at the weekend makes a strong case for him to start ahead of Grealish against Young Boys in the matchday four of the UEFA Champions League.

Guardiola wasted no time sending a message to the England international, via Mirror UK, urging him to be angry and keep competition high in the team.

“I want Jack angry, and I want him to play well. This is the way to maintain consistency at that level. Jack is back. The way he played at Old Trafford, to give us more composure in that position, was decisive for us. We need everyone,” he said.
“There are a lot of games to come, and everyone has to compete. And, when they don't play, train better the next day because the moment is coming, and when you are mentally there in the head, you will perform well, and we will win games.”

Grealish is yet to score this season and has just one assist in the league, while the Belgian wing wizard has contributed to nine goals, putting himself high up the pecking order.

Guardiola argues with Haaland

Sports Brief previously reported on Guardiola arguing with Erling Haaland after the final whistle in City's 3-0 derby win over Manchester United at Old Trafford.

The pair were involved in an animated conversation, which their gestures suggested was about the striker's header in the first half, which Andre Onana saved.
