Diego Simeone is set to make history as the longest-serving manager in the history of Atletico Madrid after agreeing to extend his deal with the La Liga giants.
The 53-year-old manager joined Rojiblancos in 2011, succeeding Gregorio Manzano, who had been dismissed the day before following the defeat to third-tier Albacete in the Copa del Rey.
According to GOAL, Simeone is set to sign a new deal with Atletico until 2027, with his current deal with the Spanish club set to expire at the end of the ongoing season.
The Argentine manager is the highest-paid coach in club football, but he has reportedly agreed to take a massive pay cut to alleviate Atleti's financial woes in order to extend his stay at the club.
There have been rumours that Simeone could be on his way out of Atletico when his contract expired this summer, but both parties have finally agreed on a new deal for the club’s most successful manager.

Meanwhile, Diego Simeone remains Atletico Madrid’s most successful manager in the club’s history following his 12-year spell, which has seen him win multiple trophies, Wikipedia reports.
The 53-year-old manager has won La Liga twice, the Copa del Rey, two UEFA Europa Leagues, two UEFA Super Cups, as well as been runner-up of the UEFA Champions League twice.
Simeone, who had two spells with Atletico Madrid as a player, is also the longest-serving manager in La Liga, having stayed over a decade at Atletico.
