  • Arsenal suffered their first Premier League defeat of the season on Saturday against Newcastle United
  • The Magpies condemned the Gunners to a 1-0 loss courtesy of Anthony Gordon's solitary goal
  • Gordon's goal was widely contested, with the Arsenal camp insisting it should not have stood

Newcastle United's Premier League clash against Arsenal was the biggest talking point of match week 11.

Stakes were high ahead of the Saturday cracker, with both teams heading into the tie off a brilliant run of form.

Newcastle had just hammered Manchester United 3-0 earlier in the week in the Carabao Cup, while the Gunners were keen to extend their unbeaten run in the Premier League.

However, it was the Magpies who emerged as the victors of the encounter, albeit controversially.

According to the BBC, Anthony Gordon's second-half goal was the only difference in the tie, with the Englishman scoring what was the ultimate winner in the 64th minute.

However, many contend that the goal should not have been allowed to stand, considering the massive VAR blunders committed in the run-up to it.

The blunders include a foul on Gabriel in the run-up and a big contestation that the ball actually went out of play before Gordon was set up for the opener.

Fan compiles VAR blunders against Arsenal

An enraged Arsenal fan has now taken to X, formerly Twitter, to compile a long thread of VAR decisions that have gone against them in the recent past.

The thread, which has since gone viral, highlights a number of refereeing decisions that did not favour the north Londoners.

The X user, @Gooner_Eurychu, began the thread with screenshots from Gordon's winning goal on Saturday and a controversial penalty call against Wolves a few years back.

The user went on to highlight Brentford's controversial equaliser at the Emirates last season, which saw VAR official Lee Mason quit PGMOL via mutual consent after he missed Christian Norgaard being offside.

In the thread, there is also a spotlight on Arsenal's loss to Manchester City in the 2021/22 season, where two penalty calls did not go in their favour.

Several instances featuring Manchester United are also mentioned, with the thread, which has since garnered more than 700 reposts, sparking more fury among Arsenal fans.

Arsenal fans react to Newcastle goal

Sports Brief also reported on Arsenal fans lamenting a 'daylight robbery' after their team suffered their first defeat of the season to Newcastle United.

The Magpies claimed all three points at St James’ Park in a crunch Premier League encounter as Anthony Gordon got a controversial goal in the 64th minute.

In truth, it was a scrappy score that summed up the extremely tight nature of the game, as both teams will feel as if several decisions had gone against them.
